History
The Mint Barrel Barn is a stunning, gambrel style barn that was built in 1910. The barn’s earliest years are a mystery, but in later years it was used as a mint still. Huge quantities of local peppermint crops were distilled into mint oil, stored in large barrels, and sold across the nation to manufacturers of gum, mouthwash, toothpaste, and candy. Companies like Wrigley’s, Crest, Colgate, and LifeSavers paid top dollar for mint oil for their products.
